Hedge trimming today guys, yes Abatis Dublin tree services are out working hard in the gardens of Dublin this time of year. The task at hand is to trim a hedge that goes around the whole garden, which you will see from the videos. We also have to prune some trees.
Hedge trimming | Botany lesson
When I arrive I see that it is a Griselinia hedge. Its full title is Griselinia littoralis. It is a native of New Zeland and prefers a mild oceanic climate. Griselinia is a dense evergreen. It posses beautiful soft glossy leaves and it has soft stems and is apple green in color.
It responds very well when trimmed into shape and matures quickly into a Hedge. This specie does very well in coastal area as it has a tolerance to the salt carried in the sea breeze. Actually the latin littoralis means “growing by the sea”. This hedge is commonly known as Kapuka.
Videos of the garden and work
As you can see from the first video the garden is well overgrown. There has been tremendous growth over the last couple of weeks.
Also as I walk around the garden with the camera we see a Lombardy poplar that is rotten and leaning on the fence. Therefore we will remove the tree.
Any time you cut a Lombardy it splits straight down the middle as it rots. The tree got its name from the Lombardy region in northern Italy.
